Cheap Trick is cancelling its Sept. 1 show.

The group says it won perform on the PNE stage because the company providing it is the same one that did the stage for their show in Ottawa last month.

That stage collapsed and Cheap Trick ran for cover. Cheap Trick manager told Rolling Stone Magazine the collapse was the Titanic. Everyone in the band was OK but four others were hurt.

The band released the following statement on its website:

for PNE (Pacific National Exhibition) in Vancouver, BC is provided by Mega Stage, (Berger), who also provided the MBNA Stage that fell on Cheap Trick at Cisco Ottawa Bluesfest on July 17, 2011.

All potential alternatives have been explored by the band and promoter and were exhausted, leaving Cheap Trick with no other cheap jerseys option than to cancel their Sept. 1 engagement at the PNE.

Unless current investigation(s) prove otherwise, the band will not, as a matter of principle, but more importantly, as a matter of safety, appear on a Berger stage in the future. Laura Ballance with the PNE is assuring people the stage they be using is safe.

stage that is being used at the PNE has been used in the past and it different than the stage that was used in Ottawa, Ballance said. it owned by the same company, this is a singular piece unit. An engineer will inspect and sign off on the stage before performances are held.

Ballance says they be making an annoucement soon on who will be replacing Cheap Trick for the free with admission show.
